hi all question for you all! i started a new bank account with rbs a year or so called a royalties account, i have never used the account to date but have tried to get it closed due its none usage,
i was told it couldn't as it'd got arrears due to none payment of a £6 monthly charge not being paid to my knowledge i wasn't aware of,
i received a call from a man from the recovery department at rbs,
the man i spoke to would accept none of this ie i was lying, i tried to tell him my point but he got arrogent with me and threatend me with the account going to default if i didn't pay what he was asking! £100 per month! i offered £20 per month he refused, i now want to get this issue resolved so i have again offered £20 per month which has again been turned down, they have offered to write off half the debt if i pay half which i am unable to due to the current climate, not actually sure i owe the money, please if anyone has any advice on this i'd be grateful,

To get your account into a position where you have to pay them £100 a month for a few months you must have had the account for a while. Is there any legitimate reason why you have not been receiving your bank statements? If there is then you should tell the bank that.
I suggest you put everything down as concisely as possible with you offer in a letter to them with the title "Formal Complaint", at the end of the letter ask them to reply within 14 days and state you will take the matter further if they don't. Send the letter to your branch manager first.
I suggest you hand deliver it or use recorded delivery as RBS have had a habit of not dealing with complaint letters about Royalities fees until you threaten them with FOS.
If you don't hear from the branch within 14 days then telephone them up and ask what is the address of their customer referral unit. If they fob you off saying they need more time(and they may do) then post back here.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

If you have never used the account you may have a better chance of getting this sorted because you can show pretty comprehensively that you have never used the benefits the account comes with. You could try approaching a local branch rather than dealing with the collections department and have them lodge a complaint (ensuring you get the reference number) and ask for a refund.0
