Do you think there are many employers that advertise jobs that don't exist?

I will take my place as an example, there are 8 of us there, 2 of us had to apply and go for interviews etc, the other 6 are relatives/friends of others already there, they didn't have to attend interviews etc, they just got in. The result in this was jobs advertised in the job centre that didn't actually exist.

I wonder if there are many employers that do that sort of thing? I ask as I have had no luck in trying to change jobs, even jobs where I should at least get to the interview stage I get rejected:mad:

They existed, but the interview process was a sham, happens all the time.

    Hi,
I don't no about employers, but recruitment agencies are always doing it.
When ever you apply for a job through them it's always gone and there just take your details.

Think that happens to a lot of us.

I can remember getting as far as an interview for a job quite some years ago now and sitting there at the interview wondering why he was wasting my time. He didnt say a word - but I could see the job had already been virtually given to an internal candidate. Annoying - as that wasnt a bad job and would have suited me pretty okay.

We don't - costs too much!! If we're advertising, we've got a job to fill, and want the best candidate; external or internal or mate of the boss - it doesn't matter, you go up against everyone else who's applied and may the best person win.

No, I mean out of the 8 of us there at the min, only 2 had to go for interviews etc, the other 6 got in through the back door, IE they are related to the boss, or friends with someone else etc.

So the jobs that were advertised i.e. yours, existed?

I see no point in advertising for something that is not there as it wastes too much time for everyone.

Yes, I'm not sure if this is the case UK wide, but in N.I for fair employment every job has to be advertised, so even though there technically is no job because they let someone in the back door, they still have to advertise the job.

My OH used to work at a well known recruitment company and some of his colleagues used to put up mock adverts, that sounded really tempting, just to get people in through the door, get their details, and then basically give them any old rubbish, as it was still commission to them. OH refused to do that, which didn't go down well with the boss. He got out of there as soon as he could.
