I've got the DS, now what else?

I got a DS from Morrisons last week. I literally just have the console, that is all.
I have NO idea what I'm doing. I've managed to turn it on, set the date. It's now off again.
I could wait until Friday when my 5 year old cousin comes round, but I wanna get playing.
So, what accessories do I need and where is the cheapest place to get them?
I'm thinking I'm going to lose my stylus any minute (can't belive you only get one!) so definetley need a few of those.
A case? I'm wanting a black one to tone down the lime green (last one left)
A cover for the screen?
Now what else, what's the cheapest way to get gaming? I've heard about some cards with games on them, I'm presuming they're illegal?
I've actually bought this mainly for my holidays in two months time, long flight. I'd like brain training, tetris, stuff like that. I like Sims too.
Anything else I need?
I'm normally pretty good with technology, but I'm baffled by this, and all the different types of cards with weird names
Oh, I didn't really know where was appropriate to post this, feel free to move.
ETA: I've just found another stylus in the console, duh!

if they still have them get a venom accessory kit at gamestation for £2.99
it's got screen covers which will stop your screen getting all scratched up and extra styluses
i got a soft case for mine - shop around because some prices for this are way too high.
i buy games used a lot and try to pay £5-10 each. sometimes used game prices are higher than new ones in a good sale. i love my brain training/more brain training(i am addicted to germ busters)/sight training etc. and anything that is a mini-game. i find gunpey really relaxing.
my dd really loves sims.
and mini games in general and i
i don't own one, but an R4 card is what your talking about for the old dslite- to download and 'back up' games- i'm sure someone else will tell you about them but i don't know where the trucks are these fall off of.
if you are going on holiday you might find the short battery life a problem.
i'm totally in love with mine...enjoy0 -
Zavvi have the 2007 edition of Scrabble for under £10. That's the game I'm currently obsessed with! I bought my case from Ebay, and have found Amazon & Game usually have good prices for the games.Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member #27

Hi - to prolong the battery life you can turn the light down - this is as the start up page [when no game is loaded] there is a picture of a lightbulb - just click on this till it is at its lowest setting [providing your eyes can cope with this!] and it really prolongs the life of the battery. I was going to ask about battery life actually, how long does it normally last? Think I might buy a spare nearer my holidays. Flights 12 hours
Whats the sims like for DS? I've only used it on PC, and that was a few years ago.0 -

So is this like a memory card? Is this how you store your games, without one, can you not save games? I'm so lost it is unbelievable. Someone's telling me about a 'Edge' card now.0 -
I play Brain Training at night to relax before going to sleep so its only on for about 30mins at a time but I only have to charge it up about once every 4 to 6 weeks. Sorry but can't really help anymore than that cos I'm a numpty at all this stuff infact, I'm hoping someine's gonna answer the query about the R4 card thingy

I own an R4 card. You store your games which you can download online on a micro SD card which fits into your R4 card. The biggest micro SD card the older more common R4 card takes is 2GB, that holds a lot of DS games. You play the games as normal and yes you can still save your games. Once you put the games on the card you just select which game you want to play and bingo bango it works. It also comes with cheats.
I'm not sure where you buy them now as I was given mines but there was a thread about it on this forum where the prices was slashed.I was going to ask about battery life actually, how long does it normally last? Think I might buy a spare nearer my holidays. Flights 12 hours

The Sims games for the DS are brilliant, especially The Sims 2 & The Sims 2 Castaway.0 -
