Fitting an Ikea (Whirlpool) oven in MFI carcas?s

Hi,

I was one of the unfortunate ones that got their kitchen units from MFI just as it went bump _pale_

We are now trying to fit said kitchen units, and have bought a Whirlpool single oven from Ikea, which is to be fitted into an appliance tower. We also bought a combi microwave and warming drawer which we want to put into the appliance tower next to the oven. The dimensions of the oven/microwave + warming drawer are the same, so the theory is that they should line up horizontally next to each other. (hope you're still with me!!!)

The problem that we are having is that even though these ovens are a few mm bigger than the ones that are mentioned in the MFI appliance installation guide, when we put the oven in, with the spacer panel above it, there is a gap at the bottom of around 20mm, part of which is the white carcass.

Although MFI also supplied a filler thing, it is a totally different colour to the unit doors, and I can't work out how it could be used to hide the carcass anyway.

Does anybody have any ideas how we get round this problem please?

Many thanks

What is the spacer panel above? How big is it? In my Ikea kitchen, the oven fitted pretty much right up to the horizontal metal bar that crosses the top of the carcass. This bar basically pushes a gap of about 8 mm (a gap that isn't really noticeable as its out of site under the overhang of the work top, but ensures air can circulate from the back of the oven and hob). Below the oven is a drawer. As I had an Ikea oven, it all fitted fine - had I gotten a larger oven, I would have had to trim the drawer front to suit.

    Hi ic,
Thanks for your reply. The oven is fitted in a tower appliance unit, so it has a cupboard at the top, then the spacer, then the oven, then another cupboard at the bottom. It sounds like yours is under your worktop, so would be different to fit I guess

I had a similar problem but not quite the same when we stacked an IKEA oven and their built in microwave one on top of another in a non IKEA tower unit. I ended up with funny spacing to the top and bottom.

I got round it by putting some additional wood between the various ovens and their supporting shelf so that the gap was better distributed above, below and between the ovens.

Maybe evening things up top and bottom might improve things. Also think about putting on a enging strip on the visible white unit edge to make it blend in with the shadows.

If you have loose supporting shelves or rigid units that can be disassembled then you might also be able to adjust the positioning of the shelves to overcome the problem.
