0300 UK Number Range

Problems can arise if you attempt to contact any 03 number from a non-UK telco (fixed or mobile). Do NOT rely on taking an 03 as an emergency contact number when you are abroad.

This is due to the fact many telcos have disabled 03 as a valid UK code and will not even offer to deliver the call to the UK to see if it will connect - you get an invalid number response from the local carrier.

You can try this for yourself if you have Skype Out (whose calls originate from the US), Skype says the numbers are invalid because 'they cannot be dialled from outwith the UK' - which is nonsensical.

The problem will probably rectify itself later (rather than sooner) but do bear this in mind when calling any number commencing '03'
