Egypt - Currency recomendation?

I'm going to Egypt in December (Cairo) and I wondered about the cash machines there?
I have a Nationwide account but a couple of years ago when I was in Vietnam it wouldnt accept my pin number saying that I needed a 6 digit pin number. I luckily had some cash on me which had to tide me over (not difficult in Vietnam as everything is so cheap). But I'm hoping the same thing won't happen in Egypt.
Also what are the prices like there? Is everything dirt cheap, middle of the road or over expensive?2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040 -
There was an ATM at the hotel and that accepted my debit card with no problems. As for prices - where I stopped is not a fair comparison as there are 5 hotels and little else hence a captive market. Alcohol was expensive - £14.00 a bottle of wine, £2.80 for a 500ml botle of beer. Food was well priced.
I work with someone aho went to Cairo in January this year and they thought it was very cheap including alcohol.0 -
Thanks Threepints.
We went to Egypt last November and for the first time in our lives have found somewhere that we'd love to go back to.
We may be going later on this year just for a week so have bookmarked this hotel as a possible.
I couldn't agree more with you about how nice the people are there. My daughters got treated like princess's and loved every second of it.Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -
I've just read some of the comments on the Virtual Tourist site about Cairo and they seem to be suggesting you have to watch what you wear and be careful with your children. Is this the case? I'm going to be a woman on my own with 2 children of 12 and 9 with me?2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040
