River Nene (oh they changed their name, I forget what to) organic box scheme. Keeps for 1-2 weeks usually, but would keep for longer if I didn't keep them in the plastic bags.0

I tend to pick up tonnes of veg from both Aldi and Lidl when they have offers on. Sainsburys basics fruit and veg is (unsurprisingly!) exactly the same as the non basic stuff. My nearest greengrocers has a good range at a decent price too. I used to have a veg box delivered from Riverford but it proved to be expensive in the long term as it often did suit our lifestyle needs..........no one feels like preparing jerusalem artichoke at 6pm for a quick supper!0

I should really go to Lidl or Aldi but ASDA is just too convenient.

Where I live there is a wholesale greengrocer on an industrial estate. I didn't know til last year that they also sell to the general public.
You pick as much or as little as you want, it's very fresh as they get loads every day, so it keeps very well.
There is no packaging.
It's very reasonable in price, compared to any supermarket I get loads for my money.
There's loads of choice, they get everything you can think of for restaurants etc.
Have a look in the phone book, there may be something similar near you.0 -
I get mine from Tesco and have no problems keeping it for a week or so, I do have some of those bags that keep veg for longer.. but I do wonder if the quality of the nutrients and benefits of fresh veg have deteriorated over the week even though the veg looks and tastes fresh and tasty... how long can you keep it ?and it still be better than frozen/tinned or is it all a level playing field to start with when it comes go goodness?.. I am I defeating the object of using fresh veg by keeping it too long?
Fresh veg will lose some of its nutrients over time (and, if you get them without excessive salt etc., tinned/frozen fruit and veg can be nutritionally relatively good). There should still be plenty of nutrition in week-old veg, though - the best bet is just to eat plenty of veg (whether fresh, frozen or tinned), and a good variety. Then you should have no problem meeting normal needs for the nutrients you get from veg (and fibre etc).
I worry more about what veg tastes nice than the details of the nutrition

I get mine from the supermarket, but when I get them from Waitrose I think they are extra fresh.
I've got that new Samsung fridge freezer thats susposed to keep food fresher longer & I have three big drawers in it, so I have one each of salad, fruit & veg and they seem to stay fresh a long time.0 -
We have a fruit and veg mobile van that visits the estate twice a week. He sets up stall on tables for a morning twice a week and is really cheap. The stuff is always fresh, decent quality and tasty.....flavoursome apples, oranges etc. Great for the basics, veg , fruit and salads and even better for the purse! Anyone living in North Wirral area, pm me and I'll let you in on the secret!! You'd be hard-pressed to find him, if you didn't know!0
