new boiler, has to be on exterior wall?

Hi, We have a property that is not yet connected to the gas supply. We are hoping to install gas central heating soon and we are considering where to put the boiler. Is it true all new boilers now have to be condensing boilers? and does this mean they have to go on an exterior wall due to the venting and the pipe to the drain? could it go in the loft? (it is a bungalow, we want to convert the loft but there is enough room for the water tank and boiler if needs must).
thanks
Midori

    generally,
most combi RS boilers need to be on an outside wall. there are some boilers that can be sited elsewhere (fan flue types).

you normally dont require any water tank with a combi boiler.
    Get some gorm.

not sure whether to go down the combi route as want an en-suite in loft conversion, how well might a combi cope with 2 bathrooms?

Fine as long as you don't want 2 showers or fill 2 baths at the same time, execept you can get an even bigger boiler that will cope with both.

DS has a combi in his 3-bathroom house (1 bathroom & 2 shower rooms, plus a total of 6 sinks) but the installer recommended it for the size of house/number of bathrooms and it copes really well.

the problem you might have is the pressure required to fulfill hot water requirements in the loft room.......

we got around it by having a sink/shower water heater, fed by mains cold water
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;)

Good evening: This guide from the Energy Saving Trust on the specification and installation of gas central heating will answer many of your questions. A RGI, after conducting a site survey, would be best placed to advise you (unfortunately this forum is sometimes awash with erroneous info:eek:).

But...in a nutshell....the boiler doesn't need to be on a exterior wall, must be condensing, would require additional works for a loft installation....condensate can be addressed in a variety of ways eg. condensate pump (see linked guide for more detail).

    No.

Their are very strict rules as to the distance from the boiler to the exterior vent, this obviously differs from manufacturer to manufacturer. When I had my boiler fitted my gas engineer even faxed the manufacturer because their guidelines weren't clear as to how a 90 degree turn should be counted to the overall measurement as my vent was very near the limit of their specifications.

I have a Bosch Condesing Boiler and it is in a full height cupboard on an internal wall. It was fitted in November to all current legislation and standards.

However there is some sort of pipework they fitted to the nearest outside wall so water can come out when it is needed to, so I should think that it would need to be close'ish to one.
