What I would like to do is send music from my computer in lounge to speakers in another room over my wi fi network.
As I can print wirelessly I guess it should be possible.
Can someone suggest equipment needed.

Technically, yes. Although depending on the quality of the music and the associated bandwidth requirements you might find it can get a bit choppy.0

I do it with my Pure Avanti Flow.
It uses a small piece of software you can download from their site when you register.

There are probably other bits of kit that will do the same, you just need a wireless internet receiver of some description. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
If you use iTunes then Apple's Airport Express would do exactly what you want.

If you have a spare PC or laptop lying around, you could use that... You can just browse shared drives using Windows Explorer, and should be able to play them locally. Alternatively you could install Spotify on the PC and stream music from the Internet. I think you can also set up VLC (the Video LAN Player client) to play music from your main PC...0

You could get yourself a DLNA enabled hi-fi. This would automatically stream music off your wireless network. Its not really taken off as yet, but Microsoft are behind it, and its a good idea so its bound to become the norm in a few years. Heres a link to such a system:
