Downloads disappear in vista

Can anybody help me. For the past few weeks i've been able to download music files, video, etc; yet when it finishes downloading, whatever i've downloaded disappears. I even set the destination as my dowload folder but nothing appears in it. I usually download in Firefox but the same goes for explorer. I've read other people have had this problem but no specific answer seems to be avaliable. If i'm getting updates for say adobe that is no problem but with most other one off things like music files no joy. I'm no computer expert either so any advice i can follow simply would be most appreciated.

Have you potentially downloaded to another user's download folder.. i.e Public for example?0

Sorry, i have doublechecked and it is in my profile and in download folder where i send dowloads to. So thanks for the idea but it's not in any other folders.0

With FireFox you can either set it to ask where to save downloads or set a default location. This is done via tools/options and then the main tab.
My betting is that you have set it to download somewhere obscure.0 -
It could be an anti-virus software issue.
I've heard of many similar problems on Vista, particularly with AVG.
When those who used AVG uninstalled it, the problem (instead of the downloads!) disappeared.
Even if you aren't using AVG, it's possibly still worth looking at your AV as a possible cause.0 -
I too thought my downloads 'disappeared' but now use the little search box, enter the word 'downloads' and they appear. Haven't fathomed out how to put them where I want them but at least I can find them now.0

Workmate had exactly the same with AVG/Vista Business.
Installed Avast, all downloads were then fine.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Something to try;
Go to control panel - folder options, select view tab and put a check beside "show hidden files and folders", click apply, then ok. Now click the start button and choose "your computer name", at the top right of the menu box. In this folder you should see a folder called "appdata". Open this, then open "local", then "virtual store", then "program files", and look for the program you are using to download stuff. Your stuff should be inside. Hope this helps.0
