Want to return a faulty item

I bought a clock from TK Maxx this morning. It's shaped like a sun with all brass coloured rays coming out from the centre, all different lengths. I enquired about a price reduction because the clock face was slightly chipped in a couple of places. They declined, saying that was why it was reduced, and it had already been reduced a couple of times.
Now that I'm home I've put the clock on the wall and I can see some of the the sun rays have actually broken off. Some are obviously meant to be different lengths, but some are broken. I couldn't see this until I put it on the wall and could see it was uneven.
Now that I see this I am not happy with the clock and want to return it. I just want a bit of advice on my rights before I do please. I know sale items can't be returned if you were made aware of the fault. There was no tag on the clock stating what the fault was, and I've bought plenty of items from TK Maxx before which were cheap but not faulty. So I bought it assuming it was good condition apart from the chips which I spotted. Will I have any problems returning this?

Do you have a receipt?0

Yes. My only concern is that they may try to argue that it was reduced in price because it was faulty. But there were no stickers or anything to indicate what the fault was - I thought it was just the chipping that I noticed on the face.
I feel a bit of an idiot for not noticing the broken sun rays sooner, but it was hard to tell close up and it was only when I put in on the wall and stood back that I could see it.0 -
They are not liable for defects pointed out to you at the time of sale. If these are defects which were not apparent, then you are entitled to reject the item on this basis.0

I don't understand though why you couldn't see this until you put it on the wall (well I kind of do,but I wonder if they might say the same)0

I know - I tried, I looked at it a lot in the shop, and noticed that the 'rays' were all different lengths, but it wasn't until I put it on a white wall and stood back that I noticed some of the rays on the right hand side were not symmetrical with the ones on the left. When I looked closer I could see that actually some of the longer ones had the ends broken off, too. It's hard to visualise without seeing the clock - the design was that the rays were not smooth, they were shaped, thick and thin in different places, and some were long and some were short. Hard to describe, but take my word for it, it wasn't noticeable at close range in the shop, only once it was on the wall.
Anyway, I took it back this afternoon and they accepted it no problem.0 -
