Funny enough, I was looking at a couple today in Bangor, small independent shop which make their own. Their prices are similar to the big chains, but he was much more convincing with regards to his knowledge of mattresses and memory foam in particular.

I still balk at the thought of spending £750 on a mattress though! I'll make my decision shortly. Gulp

Ouch!!!! can't you knock him down at all?

    Hiya!

My partner just got a new bed from Sleepmasters in Lisburn at a really good price. Double bedstead, mattress and delivery for £399. Originally we had bought a bed from MFI (dont get me started - still havent got money back) which was costing us £899 for the exact same bed - slightly different mattress though.

All in all cant believe the money we have been able to save. Due to Sleepmasters in Lisburn being a "clearance" type store they had the bed we wanted in stock and so was delivered the very next day! Really pleased after all the trouble and heart ache from MFI

The delivery guys were brilliant too - brought everything up to the room, were efficient and most importantly wiped their wet feet before stepping foot on our cream carpet lol!

I'm not in Ireland but i bought my bed from a small shop that deals in factory seconds, or catalogue rejects.

I paid £140 for my king size bed and when it arrived it was fully packed by House Of Fraser, the Hudson collection, solid walnut
    RRP £1300 http://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/null+Hudson+Collection/HUDSNCOL,default,pd.html?cgid=S1211

Also got an Orthopaedic mattress for £140 which i guess would be more expensive, again this was not faulty, brand new.

So although this doesn't particularly help, i just wanted to say there are some bargains to be had in these smaller shops!

The bed has the tiniest chip in the wood, not even noticeable as it's underneath but i guess this is why it was rejected by the lady who'd bought it from HoF
