HSBC + Experian = Disaster (?)

Oh dear,

I thought that this had all been resolved now.

I had a problem with HSBC claiming that I was in arrears on my loan...

Please see the following thread:

http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1615941

It was resolved (so I thought) when HSBC replied to my letter, admitted their error, reduced my O/S balance by £100 and assured me that it would not happen again.

Today I have checked my credit record online with Experian and this loan is showing as a red "4" In other words, marked as four months in arrears. Looks pretty odd with the line of green "0"s after it, showing that all the other payments have been on time....

I appreciate that these things may take a while to update but who is responsible for getting this done, me or the bank?

I have a copy of the letter from HSBC at home that I can forward to Experian but no doubt they want to hear from HSBC direct, not me.

What annoys me is that I asked HSBC for a temporary overdraft last week and they declined saying:
Please be advised that all applications for overdrafts are subject to eligibility. They are assessed against our set criteria and standard credit scoring procedures, which is an industry-wide practise.

I am not surprised it was declined if they saw this on my file, after they themselves put it there in error!

You can get them to remove it you know? All you need to do is go and ask them.
Things are most probably done automatically when your problems happened so no-one thought that your credit report would be screwed up when sorting things out.

Just pop along and ask them to remove it...

    Who, Experian or HSBC?

I was going to email Experian this afternoon.

    Have already emailed HSBC .

HSBC. They are the ones that put it on there, theyre the ones that can take it off.

Experian are just the bookkeepers so to speak.

It maybe worth doing it in branch, just because speaking to a person face to face is better than sending emails back and fourth to people that can't even spell.

    Thanks Lokolo,

Exactly what I was thinking I should do.

Contact HSBC, though Experian (book keepers) can be very helpful sometimes. They do act as good middle parties and can contact HSBC on your behalf. By law, Experian cannot hold wrong info, so they sometimes chase lenders when they get some sort of evidence that data is incorrect
