Hi guys,
We are due to complete on our property next friday and have been told by the sellers that they have their gas with British Gas and electric through london electricity. I just ran the post code through the comparison website and it seems that Npower or Southern Electric would be cheaper.
The house has economy 7 storage heaters (not so sure how efficient they are though, Im so used to gas central heating) so the electric would be the highest bill of all.
When we move in I would like to start the service with the cheapest supplier but I am unsure if I can do that....Can anyone tell me if I have to go through British Gas/London Elec first??
Sorry if this question has been asked before!

I've never gone with the existing suppliers when I've moved house, I just assume that the previous occupier will have told them they've moved out and settled any outstanding bills with them.
I simply ring the company I want to go with and sign up. They usually need the number of the meter though - I assume this is so they can contact the old supplier to take over the new supply. I let them sort it out between themselves.
I've done this a lot (I am a renter and have moved house about 5 times in the past 6 years!!).0 -
It will probably take around 28 days for the supply to change over, so you will have to be with the current suppliers during this period until your switch is complete.
You will have to ring your current suppliers to give them your details, but just advise them you are swapping over which is why you won't be setting up any payment schemes with them.
(The 28 days covers things like administration and the cooling off period)It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.
Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.0
