Cable on iron rubs against ironing board

Options
Being right handed I'm finding that a section of the cable on my iron continually rubs against the ironing board when I'm ironing with the effect that over time, the outer protection of the cable wears through and becomes dangerous. This is the second iron on which this has happened to me. I've bound around the damaged area with black insulating tape which looks ugly and wonder whether anybody has a better solution to this problem. I've tried draping the cable over my shoulder so it doesn't rub against the ironing board but that makes ironing cumbersome.

I do recall seeing a cable support which kept the cable of the iron out of the way whilst ironing, looked everywhere but just some info about a patent for one?! Would the JML cable tidy be of any use, it would cover the cable and prevent it rubbing on the iron but don't know about the length or diameter. Sorry I can't be of more help. A thicker cover for the board which extends a good way around each side, if it is the side of the board that it rubs on. I called Beldray but they don't sell ironing cable supports separately unfortunately. They have this ironing board on their web site.

Thank you. I'll probably have to look around some good hardware shops. Am still using the Beldray ironing board given to me as a wedding present 42 years ago, and apart from replacing the cover, it's still as good as new. Guess the aunt who gave it to me was trying to tell me that "ironing is for life".:rotfl:

My board came with a cable support. It fell off very quickly, as it gets knocked every time you put the board away.

You are already covering any frays in the material of the cable with insulating tape. You can do this before it starts to fray too, to give it some extra protection. Not sure why this looks ugly...who looks at your iron? :D. You could cover the whole cable in the same tape, or perhaps get a competant person to replace the cable when necessary, rather than buying a whole new iron.

Get some of split convoluted tubing to wrap around the cable at the appropriate place.
