in Credit cards
I've recently bought a house with my boyfriend and we have been living there for about 2 months. This is our first place together so my last address was my parents' home and they still live there. My dilemma is, I want to apply for a new credit card and do a 0% balance transfer, but I know the fact that I have moved will affect the likelihood of getting credit - so could I give my old address? The house we live in now has been rented out in the past and I know from the sort of mail we've been receiving that previous occupants have had outstanding debts and money problems. There wouldn't be a problem with my statements going to my old address as my parents can pass them onto me, but would the card company be able to find out that I no longer live there? I haven't yet registered to vote under my new address. If anyone can give me any advice I'd be really grateful!

Welcome to MSE
You can give your parents address and collect the mail and contiue paying your credit card payments. The problem will still be there in a few months time when you are still at this present address or a another newer address.
If you have permanently moved out it would be better to speak with your credit card and explain to them you are the new tenant at this address and take it from there.
Even though you may move several more times yet the credit companies will then have a record of where you have lived and this builds up and assists with them giving you credit. You have to start your own credit history and address history somewhere.
Get on the electoral register and keep it upto date if you move again this also prevents fraud so it is important.0 -
Get on the electoral roll as soon as posible as this should help your applications. Your credit report shows all your previous residences fo the last 6 years.

If your mortgage is in joint names then your new address is probably on the Experian credit report already, as a linked address. It could go against you if you then enter a previous address as your current one.0

I think that if you look in the small print of any application form, you have to be honest in all that you disclose, including your permanent address.
Disclose your new address - but also make sure that, as the previous advice says, that you are on the Voters Roll ASAP and start checking/updating the entries at Experian, Call Credit, Equifax etc.
ON another note = make sure that you use your credit card wisely!!! Do not over stretch yourself - it is easy to deluse yourself into think it can be repaid easily - you NEVER know what it going to spring up with a new house/flat in the first couple of years - and when you will need money in a real emergency quickly. If in doubt - don't use the card for borrowings.
Good Luck!0
