Reimbursement from Solicitor

Hi All,

I pulled out of a purchase after a bad homebuyers survey report, but I had already given my solicitor £350 for searches.. do you think there is any chance of me getting this money back? I unsure about asking just in case he tries to charge me more money

If not do you think I should ask the solicitor for the results from the searches? I'm a first time buying and its all so confusing my poor little head hurts. :undecided
Lifes problems wouldn't be called hurdles if there wasn't a way to get over them!

If they've already started the searches, they'll have spent the money, if not then you should be able to get it back.

If they have been started, see if there is additional costs to bear (you might only have commited a portion of the search fees, though I doubt it.) and definately get the results, you can always contact the estate agent and see if they'll buy them off you to speed up future sales? Worth a try to recover some money at least.

If you have not specifically instructed your solicitor to start the searches, then you should get a full refund. You could argue that the £350.00 was money on account pending further instructions while you are waiting for the survey report. I wish you the very best of luck
  • I agree with Linda, I had to put it in writing that I wanted my solicitor to start the seaches for this very reason. If you haven't instructed them, then you should get your money back.
