Bank Charges Question

Hi I wonder if anyone can help. I am about to write a letter to claim for bank charges as I can be considered a hardship case. I know that I am able to go back several yrs but at the end of 2006 I put in a claim for repayment of charges only during that year of £500 and they offered me £250 which I accepted. Does this mean that I can now only claim from 2007 or can I still go back 6 years and then just deduct what they have already paid me? Thanks

If you signed a full and final settlement then it is from the date of the last charge you claimed onwards. Please be aware that £500 in charges is merely indicative of financial hardship and NOT that you ARE in hardship. If you have priority debt arrears(rent/mortgage, council tax, utilities) then the bank may look at a refund to you.

Thanks very much for the advice. Is this the case even tho the claim for £500 was just for 2006 so the £250 I received was just for charges in 2006. I have received charges for pre 2006 and more since 2006 which I want to claim for. My situation is now hardship as I am unemployed and have utility arrears and the total amount I have been charged over the entire period (from 2003 until now) is probably in excess of £2000. I was going to state all the charges in the letter and then say that the £250 I claimed from 2006 can be deducted from any settlement but wasn't sure if this was ok. Thanks again, help very much appreciated.

If your last claim was signed as full and final settlement of the claim then you may find that the bank will not look further back than what you have signed for.
