card apps + electoral roll

I moved a few months ago and am now showing up on electoral roll having sent my details in. I am thinking of doing an online cc application. I was at previous address for 3 years+. I think my credit record is ok for getting a new card, I checked my file not long ago. DOes it count against me that I've not been on the 'new' electoral roll v. long at all? I mean enough to stop me being issued CC I'd otherwise be offered? I read somewhere you're supposed to be on electoral roll for 6 months at new place, at least, or it can affect your application?

Also, I suspect I'm still on the old electoral roll at the moment (I understand the new council will write to the old one and so it will be taken off there in a while). Does that, likewise, damage my CC application's likelihood of success?

Would anyone know about these things?! Anyone here actually applied in these circumstances and not found this kind of 'new address' time-on-electoral-roll to matter?

Tks in adv.

On your credit file, look at the relevant section and what does it say under length of time at address? It is this info that matters to lenders....

If the previous address is more than 3yrs then it shouldn't matter, no. Stability is good but if you had say 10 addresses in the last 5 years this would affect you.

  • hello, thanks for reply. It shows '3 years 2 months' for previous address; my new address isn't showing up yet - but will do shortly now I'm on the electoral roll (as credit ref ages get to hear about this quite quickly I understand). What would your view be?! ta in advance.

Also, do they ring you during loan application process (online or after getting you to send in ID in the post)? You do have to send in ID after filling in the online form don't you...I wonder about the ringing bit as I'd prefer to give my mobile number on the form for them to ring me (i'm out and about a lot so this would be best for them getting through to me). Does not putting landline number down on the form matter (ie, write off chances of getting the card...!)

    Thanks as I say

very few ring you, they write! Or email....

regards to electoral roll, you'll be fine so long as they update you with current address or it will be referred.

  • Thanks. Just wondering, what do they write - or email - you about, after you've done the online application? is it to ask that you send ID confirmation in...or does it turn out there is more info they want to know?

Incidentally, I have noticed that during an application you sometimes (all the time?...I wouldn't know...) get asked for more information than companies seem to strictly need to confirm your ID and address. For example, quite often (or all the time?) you get asked what your regular bank account is and how long you've had it...also you get asked your date of birth (which wouldn't be apparent to them if your 'ID' proof was a letter from the benefits agency with your NI number on it). So they seem to gather this other kind of information from you during the application. What do they do with it? They can't verify the correctness of your bank account information - the name of bank and address, and the length of time you've had your account - can they? Or the date of birth (unless you send in ID proof that has it on it, which not all ID proof requires). So why do they ask for this extra info? OR, do they go to your bank (eg) and check you've given accurate info about how long your account has been in operation with them?

Questions questions...would be interested to know the answers if anyone knows...

These threads are just too funny :rotfl:. I've already replied to his other one here - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=21295615&postcount=10.

I'll tell everyone what's happening here - this guy has got hold of someone elses details, ie. name, address, dob and credit file, and has 'moved' the person to a new address which he has access to and is now trying to apply for credit for them at the new address. If you read his posts he speaks of THE credit file and THE previous address, not MY credit file/previous address, ie. he's referring to someone elses.

All the questions about whether the CC company will phone him and whether they'll check proofs and all the other stuff are all classic fraudster questions :rotfl:.
