rejecting a car on hp for bad repairs

after having 4 repairs (same repair just messed up each time) on a peugeot 206 for a minor accident we are not happy with he car, the insurance company are not interested even though I have 2 rac post accident inspection reports with faults found.

the car is financed by peugeot and has been repaired by their approved repairers - can I hand the car back to them ? or what else can I do?

I think you will need to keep pressing the insurance company and name and shame on here.

Any repairs after an accident usually come with a guarantee and you should have had paperwork to this effect.

Need a bot more info really. How long you had the car? What damage and what problems were with the car? Is it exactly the same problem each and everytime it comes back?

To be honest you dont really have a case for handing the car back and getting out of the HP Agreement that easily just because their workshops cannot do what they are supposed to do. I would ring their customer service dept and expalin how disgusted you are etc. See what they say. We could advise more with some more information though hopefully.

The car was six months old when rear-ended last September, it was taken to the approved insurance repairer to be fixed

They replaced the bumper, not the back panel as they said they would, and when we picked the car up, we noticed the back didn’t look the same as prior to the accident. I.e bumper screws showing and bumper not level, bumper colour not the same as the rest of the car. Basically we were told tough luck nothing wrong by the repairer, when home we found the boot didn’t shut and bubbles/dust in the paint.

Another visit to the garage was arranged via the insurance company. They sprayed the boot lid to match the bumper, adjusted the bumper, and gave it back to us with the rear badge missing – this was checked and signed off by an insurance engineer. We found after this repair the rear colour of the car didn’t match the rear quarter panels and the paint finish was not correct, and boot lid didn’t fit/sit correctly.

Called the insurance company, they advised us to find another garage of our choice. We called the Peugeot dealer where we had the car from new and they advised us to meet with them and their approved repairer. We did this and they could see the faults in the car, and said they could fix it. The insurance company agreed to this after seeing the car. So off the car goes for a 3rd repair.

The car is returned but the bumper is still not fitted correctly and the colour match is out, they have now sprayed half the car, the front doors and wings look a darker shade to the rear. we yet again told the insurance company about this, they didn’t seem to care. We got fed up of them and called the rac out for a post accident inspection. Told the insurance company the findings of the rac and within an hour an appointment was made for an insurance engineer to see the car again.

Engineer agreed with faults on the car so yet again it goes back the to garage, where the engineer said he would see the car with the bumper off to see what the problem was and have a paint technician from the car manufacture out to match it properly – none of this was done! (I can prove this)

Called the insurance company again, told them what I thought of them and the service received so far, they said they would like to meet me with the car at the repairers, with the engineer present. I agreed and met with them, explained what was wrong and the repairer said it was an “acceptable repair”, the insurance engineer agreed with this – I disagreed.

When home I called the rac for advice and booked a 2nd post accident inspection. The same faults were found again and when telling the insurance company they advised me that their engineer’s decision was final.

Not once through out this has any one asked to see the rac reports! I have called the insurance claims line to make a complaint but am put through the engineering department who will not do any more to the car.

I have tried to px the car at local Peugeot dealer but they say it will have to have a complete respray if they were to take it (at a price of £2100)

We are fed up of the whole thing and are left with a car that is still not repaired correctly, and no one seems to care.

We have complained to Peugeot uk about the insurance company (Peugeot insurance) but the say they can’t investigate complaints about departments within the same company.

The car was supplied by Peugeot from brand new using Peugeot finance, insuranced by Peugeot and repaired by Peugeot approved repairers.

What is the next step for us?

Your issue is with the repairer, not Pug.

There is no way out mate, sorry.

Do not stop paying for the car, just write into the manager of the repair shop etc.

If you stop/threaten to stop paying car will be repo'ed and ccj etc etc

The car may be financed by peugeot but it's an insurance job so you need to speak to them rather than the finance co.

As Alcot suggests, if you stop paying for it they will repossess the vehicle and quite possibly charge you if the vehicle is in a bad condition

ware - sorry to hear about this mess. I can imagine how annoyed you must be. As others have said, its not really Peugeots responsibility. Personally, I think your insurance should have more involvement as it was their approved repairer. I dont think there is any point you taking this further with the repairer ... you deal with the insurer and let them deal with the repairer. that way, you are dealing with less people. The next port of call must be to tell your insurer that you are seeking legal advice as they don't seem to be doing enough to ensure a good repair ... at the end of the day, the repair has been approved by the insurer and therefore the insurer needs to have more responsibility, especially when the car has gone back 3 times.

You ought to talk to a solicitor and see what advice you can get. If it was me, I would have done that by now and told the insurer to get their backsides into gear. Dont deal directly with the repairer .... thats the insurers problem!
