The problem is not what you had, but what you might have. A clean break consent order contains a clause that prevents either party from making claims against any future wealth of their ex and also under inheritance rules. This is always worth getting drawn up professionally. The way to keep the costs down for this are to go to a solicitor armed with all the information required. For example, where were you living? If you have both moved on from the matrimonial home leaving no debt, then all well and good, you won't need a clause in relation to that BUT a narrative explaining that would be an advantage to forestall a judge from querying it and delaying things. Where there is truly nothing to divvy up, the document is simple and in truth only one of you need to see a solicitor to get the document drawn. You can arrange for it to be signed between yourselves and lodged at the court. Whie the court staff cannot give you legal advice, they can assist with the mechanics of the court process.
The divorce itself can be done as described by mookiandco and if you follow it step by step you should have no difficulties. If you use the two year separation by consent rule then it is very simple.0
