I have been given (in exchange for eggs) a food grade barrel to use as a water butt. I would like to fit a tap to make filling my watering can easier.

I have found some taps for sale online but they have a nut and washer to be fixed inside. We are all too big to fit inside to fix it and our arms are not long enough:rotfl:

Does anyone know of anywhere online where I can by a self tapping tap?? Please. I need to buy online as I am unable to get to shops.

Long cane, piece of bluetack or a strong bit of tape, attach nut to cane, fit nut to tap by turning tap. Yes it's going to be a pain and yes you can do it.

You can do it, I've done the same sort of thing many times. You just have to make the right tool to do the job.
Some other ideas, two pieces of flat wood fixed to the end of a stick, rubber bands pulling them together and the nut in between them, one of those litter pickers you might be able to borrow, get a small child to crawl in (preferably someone elses :D).

Do be very careful to not cross thread the nut and make sure the threads are perfectly clean so that when the nut is on the tap, you can pull that tap towards you and tighten the nut, any resistance will make it impossible. Check how easy it is to screw on the nut before you start. A tiny bit of grease on the thread after the nut is on, will help.
