Ok having a problem with an external 2.5" Maxtor HDD. I can see the HDD in device manager but when i plug in the usb cable it says updating usb drives and then it is no where no be seen.
The power light it on and the drive spins when you start up and there is no strange noise either. I also have tried this on 4 computers/laptops and still the same outcome.
Any advice on how to get this working?
Thanks

Does it have an external power supply? A double USB connector?
I've found that most problems with 2.5inch usb port powered drives is that they try to take more than the 500ma a USB port is designed to supply. Sometimes they'll work on one port but not another or sometimes one machine and not another. Of course it could just be that it's broken.0 -
