Giving someone power of attorney over bank account

Hi, hopefully someone here can give me some info -
My girlfriend's sister has an account here with HSBC. She lives abroad, but as her sister (my girlfriend) is coming here next week, she would like to give her power over her bank account as there are 'things' to resolve that apparantly can't be resolved over the phone. Thats all I know.
But anyway she asked me to find out if it was possible, and what she would need to do? Im assuming letter, photocopy of passport etc?
Anyone have any experience?
Thanks

Do you mean a 3rd party authority over an account or a Power of Attorney.
A power of attorney is a legal process which needs to be done before going to the bank.
If it is just to sign on the account then signatory needs to take identification and address confirmation (unless an existing bank customer).0 -
Adding someone as a signatory to the account is a lot simpler than Power of Attorney, though some banks won't allow it.
A power of Attorney takes several months and a minimum of £150 in fees before it can be used.0 -
ah thanks signatory is what i need - sorry after a google power of attorney seemed to come up, guess i was confused0

All you need is a third party mandate then. Your girlfriend and the account holder need to go to the Bank with ID and proof of address to get this organised.
It is cancelled upon mental incapacity (unlike a POA) and death.:hello:0
