British Passport palava - HELP!!!

Hi all,
Sorry for this post as it has been a while since I posted last. My Question is simple. I am trying to get a first british passport for my little girl but on the application form, I need to get some one of some authority to attest or vouach the photograph picture of my little girl.
I Have been to see a local high street lawyer and they want to charge about £60-£100 just for a signature and an official stamp. I think this is excessive and was wondering what is the best way to get this done, even for free if possible. Surely there must be a way out of this.
Can my local GP or my local police station not be okay for this, all that is needed really is some one to vouch for the passport and photograph of my little girl. What of my local magistrate court, can they do it for me.
Any idea or suggesions from any one will be appreciated indeed.
Thanks all.

You could ask your daughter's Head Teacher - I'm sure that teachers are designated "people of authority" in the notes that come with the application.
No harm in asking, anyway...
Just checked, that should be ok - the guidance is here : http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Passports/Applicationinformation/DG_1741510 -
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. Your GP could do it but will charge... Do you not know a professional person who might do it for you, a local councillor or business person..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Teachers can do this......I've done it on several occasions. GPs can also do it although I have heard that some chargeWe don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0

Yeah try her teacher or GP (some charge though) or any friend of the family who is a professional and on the list posted above.
Good luck!0 -
Your GP can do it - but some charge. Do you know a teacher or a local councillor? Or an accountant?
In fact, I've just found the list of eligible signatories - the link is here:
Passport countersignatories
http://www.ips.gov.uk/passport/apply-countersign.asp
Can you find one of those on the list?
ETA - I see Mags_cat got there before me!
ETAA - In fact I could do it for you - I'm a director of a limited company - albeit a very small one

Class teachers will do it free of charge. Our old next door neighbour did it for us, he was a store manager.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

I am a teacher and it depends on the school/headteacher, but the last 4 heads I worked for expected us to refer parents to the school office where permission would be given and a charge (for school funds) made.0
