I am so angry to hear that Cow and Gate Bear Biscuits have been found to contain hydrogenated fats and they were not labbelled as containing them. see bbc news - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8032105.stm
I buy these for my ds - about the only special childrens food I do buy. I am so angry that I have given them to him after these findings. I am also annoyed that I still have 2 packs that I now won't use. there is nothing on the cow and gate website - does anyone know if they are likely to give refunds or if tesco will (where I purchased them?)
Thanks.

thats shocking news.
I have just looked at the link and i am shocked that Farley's Rusks, made by Heinz are 29% sugar. i have been using these as a breakfast for weaning my baby. i knew they wuold have a little bit of sugar but not that high.
i too would have also bought the bear biscuits when babe was bigger but won't be buying now.
sorry i don't know about refunds but am sure someone will be along shortly who will know.
thanks

Worse than taking the kids to McDonalds says the Guardian, http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2009/may/04/baby-food-nutrition-claims
I'm sure since withdrawn from sale either retialer of C+G will refund..0 -
Home baked is best. Get some recipes and start baking.0

I hate farleys, cow and gate, heinz and the like! They fill their baby food with junk and people buy it as it is "made for babies" and would never expect them to put such rubbish in it! It's surprising how few regulations there are regarding what goes into baby food/ formula milk!
Like snowmaid I make my own or occasionally get the organix's biscuits for a treat. Also things like normal rice cake's (unsalted) and oat cakes are good and much cheaper!0 -
if possible could i have a link to the baby food .
thanks dora

Unless Farleys rusks have changed their recipe since i was a baby, many moons ago, i dont see any harm in giving them to babies. I was very premature when i was born (2lb 4oz) and my mum gave me rusks as a baby and they never harmed me. I also gave my daughters rusks as babies, and they are fine too. I think a lot of women are very ott in what they feed their babies, and i bet a lot of them bottle feed their babies anyway!( which isnt good). And also take them to McDonalds, and let them have sweets when their older! Its all down to sensible, consistent parenting:D0

Hi - I only came on here to ask about refunds and tell other parents about this story. I do bake my own biscuits/cakes/bread etc but do give these biscuits occasionally as I thought they were not full of sugar/crap etc...and yes I did bottle feed my baby but due to health reasons - but I don't see why every thread on this site about baby food ends up being about that and why every parenting thread makes you out to be a bad mother.
I asked if anyone knows about refunds - can we keep the thread about that please???SAHM Mummy tods (born Oct 2007) and dd (born June 2010)0 -

I'm fairly sure that Tescos will refund anything you're not happy with as long as you have the receipt and they are un-opened. Might be worth ringing them to check or just popping in if they are local.0 -
When they say a farleys rusk (which every baby I've known eat since the dawn of time) contains more fat than a mcdonalds, do they mean the whole pack or just one rusk?2014 Target;

Unfortunately these companies just rely on the fact that most people don't bother to read the nutritional information on the back of the pack and just assume because it's for babies it must be healthy. Baby food is just like any other food, if you want to know what is in it read the nutritional info on the back and if you're concerned make your own.
It's the same with most so-called "healthy option" food, if it says low fat it's normally full of sugar and if it's low sugar it's normally full of fat.Dum Spiro Spero0
