Problems Installing Livebox Software

Hi All
I've got an orange livebox which I've installed on new wireless laptop (eventually!) and it's up and running. I'm now trying to install it on our PC but am having problems.
We bought a wireless USB dongle thing from orange as our PC wasn't wireless enabled. I have disabled the firewall and now removed all antivirus software - but when I put the CD in the drive it won't go past the first screen where you can select 'new installation', 'install on additional PC' or 'recover livebox'.
I've seen somewhere about making a wired connection on the pc first, but the livebox needs ethernet connection and our PC doesn't have an ethernet socket on it.
Any ideas how I might get this to install or should I just give it us as a bad job?
Many thanks
Charlotte

You don't need to install any Livebox software on the PC.
You will need to load the software and driver for the USB dongle and then when that is up and running you should be able to connect to the Livebox by using the pairing button. To configure the wireless encryption etc. use the laptop connected to the Livebox using an Ethernet cable. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Hi espresso, thanks for your reply
I've managed to get a connection on the PC now by following your instructions and using the dongle on the PC and the ethernet on the laptop and the security settings on the livebox to none.
However, as soon as I try and set it back to WPA I lose the connection again on the pc. I've tried putting in the long security key number (I wasn't sure if it was ASCII or Hexadecimal so I tried both options) but I can't get the connection back again without turning off the security.
Any ideas?
Cheers

On the computer connected via Ethernet, get yourself a long random hex passphrase or key from here (use the maximum length allowed) and save this to a notepad file so that you can copy & paste when required.
Paste this key into the routers WPA field and then when you try to connect the laptop you will need to enter the exact same key before you will be allowed to connect due to the wireless encryption now configured on the router. You could transfer the notepad file across to the laptop via a flash drive or e-mail. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Thanks espresso - I got them both up and working eventually. :T0
