Critical Illness Insurance

Hi,

I am trying to establish which critical illness insurance provider covers the most conditions on their policies.

I have a feeling it used to be Scottish Provident??

The likes of Bupa now provide CIC, what is the cover like?

Many thanks

It depends how you read the contracts really. On a numbers game BUPA covers 40 conditions which is top with Fortis and Royal Liver.

What you need to do is to read between the lines with these policies - about 90% of all claims (dependings on whos stats you read) are down to stroke, cancer or heart attack.

For men the most common cause for claim historically is heart conditions. Personally I wouldnt worry about condition number 35,36,37 etc. The insurers are trying one-upmanship to give the most conditions - great as a selling aid. Not much use if condition 40 has a 1 in 1.5million chance of being claimed on.

For people with an Asian background it could be argued BUPA provide the best cover as they are only company to cover diabeties (of a very specific nature), for women cover for carcinoma in situe resulting in a mastecomy is very important give that breast cancer is the most common form of claim for female sex and only about 5 companies do this in the whole of the market.

So, going back to my point, dont worry about the number of conditions covered. Speak to an IFA or independant insurance broker (easily found online) who can give you guidance as they should know which is the best, not the cheapest, depending on your circumstances.

    Hope that helps :)
