Head for the The Ubiquitous Chip on Ashton Lane (West End of the City) for great food and atmosphere. Both West End and Merchant City areas have loads of good bars and restaurants.

Thanks for that, we are staying at the Jurys, what area is that in and is there anywhere in that area you can think of. Am I right in saying they used to have boats on the clyde with restaurants and bars on them or am I imagining that .

    Thanks

I think you are imagining that - sadly.

Not since the "Love Boat" (the old disco) has there been much on the Clyde

What time does the concert finish, as that may limit some of your options?

Jurys is on Jamaica Street, so personally I would head for the Merchant City as it is just a short walk/stagger from there.
Plenty of places to eat drink and indeed be merry

Ha Ha, its my age, it plays tricks on my memory.....maybe it was the love boat i am thinking about!!

Dunno what time the concert finishes hope its not to late as really want to go out and have something to eat or at least for a few drinks afters. It starts at 4ish so hopefull out by 10ish. You sound like you know that area, is it a taxi/train ride to hampden or does the metro go that way. cheers:beer:

The Underground sadly doesn't stretch as far as Hampden.

I would image getting a taxi back will be tricky as lots of people will be doing it.

You can get a train from Central, a short walk from the hotel, 5 - 10 minutes, maybe longer in heels!
You get off at Mount Florida and follow the signs/crowds.

I am sure there will be plenty of buses too.

Indeed it was the Tuxedo Princess, which went to the Tyne I believe after it left Glasgow.

And the Renfrew ferry is now on the north side of the river as opposed to the south where it used to be.
  • The Tuxedo Princess was on the Tyne, as my mum tells me about her nights out to it!

I suspect my information will be too late, but if the concert goes on quite late and you're looking for somewhere to drink, The Social (just near the Gallery of Modern Art, follow Jamaica Street away from the Clyde, turn right when you reach a small Somerfield and Yorkshire Building Society, and walk to Borders. It's on the passage on the right side of Borders, straight ahead) is open till 3am, and does fantastic cocktails. One of the few bars that stocks Passoa, yum!
