Car rental and inland flights usa

Myself and my girlfriend are travelling to Buffalo, New York, and we plan on seeing as much as the states as possible with our £6000 budget. We're not to sure how we're going to do it yet, but I'd like to drive down the east, stopping off at the major tourist spots and spending lots of time in Florida. We're probably going to fly from Florida to California and then once again drive California, oh and venture out to see the grand canyon. And to finish off we're going to fly from California to NYC in which case we won't be needing a car for that leg of the journey.
I'd like to drive the full length of the East Coast so we'd be picking the car up in Buffalo and the drop off point would be somewhere in Florida. Is there any car rental companies that have deals, such as driving a car back to locations for them?
Some advice would be most appreciated!
Thanks Dave

At certain times of year you may get good rates from some companies for relocating either to or from Florida. To Florida would be in the autumn, from in the spring.

Having said that I'm not sure which companies actually offer this and how far ahead and how widely they are advertised.

Most of the majors will offer one way - for a fee of course.
  • Any advice please???????????

Didn't want to read and run so...for what it's worth...
not all car hire firms charge the same for one-way rentals. On experience, National charge $250 and others (e.g. Dollar and Avis) charge $500 per rental. Worth factoring this in when comparing actual cost of the car itself?
Also, between certain states there can be no one-off fee needed. NY to Florida = almost certainly, however a rental in California or Nevada for example can let you drive and drop off in another state without one-way fee. Again, worth asking the question of the car hire companies if they allow this.

Am by no means an expert on this, but just wanted to give a flavour and bump your question til someone more knowledgeable comes along. Have you checked out the Las Vegas thread on this forum btw? Interesting posts about the Grand Canyon in there.
