Rough quotes of various jobs in house renovation...

I am trying to work out how much we have saved by doing things ourselves when renovating the house, so would like to know rough estimates for the following: (I appreciate some things are extremely variable...but a rough estimate as I have no idea..)

Wall paper stripped in 3 medium sized rooms

5 large conifers cut down and roots dug out

Garden & House Cleared of Rubbish - price of a skip?

House cleaned (took 3 people 10 hours)

Bathroom suite Removed

Bathroom iles removed

8 new sockets brackets fitted & 2 new sockets put in

Fireplace & surrounding brick removed

8 Radiators removed

6 doors removed

Inside Door bricked up, new door frame made

10 hours painting outside

    rough budget?

    100
    500/1000
    150/300
    300

    100
    100
    250/500
    200/400

    200/400
    100
    400
    200

    total = 2600/3750 ish.

could be twice that if you live in the eg leafy surrey area.

Work out how many man hours it took, ie 3 of you for 10 hours is 30 man hours. and multiply that by £15 - £20 and thats gonna be the rough labour cost you saved.

Then marvel at how much you saved and buy yourself a nice big pressie to say well done

Obviously it's not 100% accurate as a professional probably would of done it quicker as they have the experience and tools, but in some cases they would of charged more so it evens out.

    thanks in advance...

ormus we have done the work already, but just pondering how much we have saved by doing it ourselves.

markie, good idea to work out man hours. we've saved a packet on skips alone i think! so I dont feel guilty at spending £40 on a busy yesterday haha :)

aye i realise that. just giving a rough idea of how much you have saved.
certainly you can say that every man labour day is another 100/200 quid saved, plus materials.
builders etc. have a habit of loading material costs.

wow £500 min for hauling the conifers out??? they should be made illegal!!

thanks for the estimates, its amazing to see how much we have saved. Had a friend to do the electrics paid him beer money, builder cost nout cos he is a relative, plumber was reasonable and didnt know anyone to do it for us, friends and family roped into cleaning and stripping...so we have hardly spent any money out on the house yet and it looks great up to now!! :) (even if i do say so myself)

They are (mostly) jobs that require little or no skill, but I'd say you could have saved anything up to £3000.
    In wood we trust.
