IF the market was that good why are all the estate agents closed..

Where i live all the seven estate agents have been closed since last friday and they have not been open at weekends for over 18 months but today a bank holiday they are closed also..it might be due to the fact that the average time to sell a house round here is 242 days.....looks like the market is dead here..
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

Well, yes but we should still get time off! Everybody else has the day off don't they? Or most people anyway. Having said that, here I am at my desk

    Good one.

It looks like a case of spin being trumped by reality.

I think the biggest problem is that there are so few people working in estate agents now due to the downturn that they are unable to cover all the possible opening hours. On top of that, those who actually want to buy will go at other times - probably gets rid of the 'window shoppers' as well.

The market is not that good, there have been a few sales and thats about it, some people think the market has picked up but trust me there is going to be a big sting in the tail.

I think what has happened a lot of people where going to be forced to sell through job losses and then people would put their houses on at bargain prices and this would keep estate agents busy, however what i think has happened the people who would have had to sell, now dont need to due to the very low interest rates.

This could all change if interest rates go back up, ive seen a property by me it was bought for 269000 in 2007 and it was on the market till christmas and had been reduced to 205000, now i suspect if rates do go up, this house will go back up for sale.

Many have gone down to a skeleton staff to keep the office open in the last hope of a Spring revival in the housing market.

One near me has a window full of pretty pictures of happy families as there isn't enough property for sale.
