Humax PVR-9150T V Humax PVR-3500T

Looking to buy a Humax, but looking at the specs on the Comet site, it would appear the only differences are the 9150T has 100 hours recording, and the 9300T has 200 hours recording plus Optical connection,(whatever that is), is this necessary?

So as 100 hours would be ample, am I right in assuming it would be a waste of around £50. to buy the 9300T?

Also what does the HDMI conn do and is it necessary? Although as it is on both machines I suppose the question is academic.

Try hovering your mouse over the little 'i' in the descriptions and all will be revealed.

The Optical connection is for Dolby Digital Audio, have you a high end AV system?
HDMI High Definition Digital Interface, gives you slightly better quality than using a scart connection, assuming your TV is similarly equipped.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

    No high end AV system.
TV not similarly equipped,(Toshiba 37" CRT).

So would you say that I would only need to 9150T, and therefore save around £50. as I am not looking at upgrading the TV?

Also depending on which site one goes to, there is a difference between them saying that both will "record 2 channels and watch another" to some saying "will record 1 whilst watching another",(for the 1950T).
i.e. the comet site says,"Record 2 channels and watch a recorded program" for both pvrs,

But the argos site says,"Record 1/watch another.> Can record 2 channels at the same time." for the 1950T,

And, "Record 2/watch another > Can record 2 channels at the same time." for the 9300T.

In that case if you don't need the HDMI/optical etc. you could get double the storage capacity for less than the Comet price here with the Humax PVR9200TBX-G 320GB.

Thanks, can see that, but I don't need that much storage, that unit is nearly the same price as the 9150T at Comet or Argos,(not that I would buy from Comet, just using the site as a reference), also is refurbished, with only a one year guarantee as against a new one having 2, also I have a £100. voucher for Argos, so would probably buy from there, not to keen on buying at a distance especially from a company that uses premium rate revenue sharing numbers,(0844), for contacting them.

What is so funny? This is a money saving site and is affiliated to the saynoto0870 site,(which includes 0844 numbers), and for a company to use premium rate phone numbers for customers who wish to obtain infromation about their products or to complain about faulty products is a disgrace!

Yes, much better to spend another £50+, rather than running the risk of having to call an 0844 number.

I have the Humax PVR-9150T, you can get them from Richer Sounds for £119.95
    http://www.richersounds.com/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=HUMA-PVR9150
They do a 5 year guarantee for 10% extra and your money back if you do not claim. It will do the same as the 9300T as you will be using scart on your TV, except the 9300 will store nearly 200 hours of TV. I find 100 hours plenty enough though and I am very pleased with mine. They are near enough silent now the software has been updated and really change the way you watch TV. I cannot imagine being without one now! You can even record two different channels whilst playing back something you have previously recorded.

It does not cost an extra £50 ,the 9150 is available at Argos for £126. and I could probably get it cheaper.

You just don't get these 084/987 numbers do you?

These companies, doctors, Government departments etc using these numbers cost the average domestic landline user around £200. per year by using these revenue sharing numbers, as I have said, this is a money saving site, so why use that type of number when I can use a standard number and a local based company, you continue to support these unscrupulous companies that extract,(covertly), money from unsuspecting callers via the phone system,. I won't.

Where do I get the figure of £200. you may ask.

Take the average domestic phone calling these numbers for an average 10 minutes per day over a 5 day week, over a 52 week year at say 6ppm,(these calls from a landline can cost in excess of 10ppm), that is £150. per year, not quite so cheap now is it? I could buy the PVR with that saving. The figure will be a lot higher for people calling from a mobile or using a payphone, therefore by using a geo number, that can mostly be found, (exept in the case of Humax, who when calling their switchboard will not put you through to sales or technical), I am not lining the pockets of these compinies via the phone system and in effect paying more for the product!
