My bank cancelled my PayPal Direct Debit!

Just received an email from PayPal telling me that my bank rejected a call for payment and so they've taken the amount from my registered credit card. On checking with my bank, it transpires they've kindly deleted the PayPal Direct Debit simply because it hadn't been used for some time. It might have been helpful if they'd informed me of their intended action before they made a unilateral decision on this!
PayPal say in their email that they've removed the bank account from my account, but it still appears to be active. My question is, how can I reinstate the Direct Debit. I can't delete and re-add the old Primary bank account because there are still outstanding amounts on the account.

I had a similar ocurrence last year, but that was through some error on PayPal's side. They also deleted my bank account from PayPal, but I just reinstated it without any trouble. It took about 10 days, but went through O.K.
I do not understand what you mean about you cannot delete the old account because of outstanding amounts.0 -

Because I cannot find a way to reinstate the DD, I want to delete my primary bank account and set it up again. But when I select 'Remove' I get the following message...
"You cannot remove this bank account because it currently has a pending transaction. This transaction may take up to 7-9 days to complete, at which time you will be able to remove the bank account. Please try again after the transaction has been completed"

Ah!! It seems that PayPal think the DD is going through and the bank think it is not. This is the sort of impasse that you get with financial institutions every now and again. I think you will need to speak to one or the other.
I find it very odd that the bank cancelled the DD as it had not been used for a while. I have DDs that come out only once a year and they do not get cancelled.0 -
I seem to remember reading before somewhere that direct debits expire automatically after 13 months if there hasn't been any payments collected from it in that time.0

I had this last week too. Very annoying. I paid someone and the bank pt it through an reversed it a day later. PP said it was a bank processing error and had deleted the account on my account and that I should contact me bank about it. I am not sure if I have used it in that time for money to go to and from the bank to be honest. Probably not.0

blue monkey, I think you will find this a PayPal error.
I had exactly the same thing happen to me last year when a payment I had made was reversed and PayPal said it was a bank processing error, they sent me 3 odd emails which I thought were spam at first. When I spoke to my bank they said PayPal had made no attempt to take the money at all.
In the end I had to re-instate my bank account. Shortly after that some one posted on here saying that they had received exactly the same e-mail from PayPal as me and there were others who had also had the same thing happen.
PayPal seem to have a rush of blood to the head and delete bank accounts for no real reason.0
