Bit of a strange one this. My 4 year old Dyson died. Well I let the middle of it completely fill up with dust and it burnt out the motor. Completely my fault as I only spotted the 3 ft of compacted dust after it died. Ah well.
Was just goijng to spend £25 on a new motor from EBay and fit it myself, but then read about Dyson's own repair scheme (and some good reviews of it).
Basically for £60, they'll come round and fix anything on any Dyson. OK, it's quite a bit more, but it did involve me not having to take a screwdriver to anything and undoubted swearing that would have filled teh air with for an evening.
Guy came round 10 mins into the window they'd given and had my Dyson working in 15 mins. Nice bit is he pretty much replaced every part on the machine as well as the motor. All filters, brushes, brush guards etc etc. Basically every single part that had ANY wear on it at all was replaced. When I mentioned how it had broken, he said there was a new cylinder design that mght prevent it in the future, he didn't have any with him, but a few days later I got one of those arriving at my door as well.
I'm rambling a little bit here, but I got way more than £60 worth of bits for my Dyson (assuming I'd bought them myself) - and they fitted them all - and there's a 12month warranty on everything they fit.
I guess this is only good value if your Dyson is REALLY broken, but if you're aware of any Dyson that's about to be binned, it's quite handy to know that for £60 it can be made as good as new.
