I always dust 1st, that way all the yuk that drops on the floor then gets hoovered up.

  • Me too. I dust all the rooms, and then by the time I get back to vacuum the first one the dust should have settled.

In a hotel you make the beds, damp dust, then clean the bathroom, the last thing you do is hoover as you go out the door, the thinking is that the dust has settled by the time you are ready to hoover, always worked for me, I still do it.......

I always hoover firat - having wiped up all the crumbs etc that would only drop on the floor. I try to leave it as long as possible before I dust as it takes at least 2 hours for all the dust thrown up by the hoover to settle. I understand why commercial premises etc hoover last, but in your own home, it doesn't matter as much IYKWIM.

I learned once that if you are asthmatic, that you should hoover your bedroom first thing in the morning so that the dust will have completely settled by the time you go to bed. I think I posted a while ago about leaving an interval between hoovering and dusting so that your dusting becomes more effective, and I believe someone reported that it was much better that way. Sometimes I'll hoover the whole house one day and dust/polish the next. (That being said, with small kids I tend to have to hoover every day somewhere  )

BTW - my mum taught me to dust first and hoover 2nd, so that I would hoover all the bits dusted onto the floor. Now I do her cleaning - I do it my way :D

I dust first and hoover second ~ after I have taken the throws off the couches and shaken them outside!

I never knew that about asthmatics though, my o/h is asthmatic so maybe I will start with our bedroom first from now on ~ see what kind of a difference it makes :)

I dust first and then hoover, like the other posters, i find some of the dust goes on the floor, so i can hoover it up, rather than get the hoover out again!!!!!

I always thought you should hoover, let the dust settle and then dust.
Am in work but will have alook in my "How Clean is Your Home" Book later to see what they say.

I reckon anyone who is uncertain should sit down and have a nice cup of tea and leave the housework until a decision is made. If only.
