Wedding Magazines - What are they on????

We've been planning our wedding for a couple of months now and my OH has amassed a large pile of wedding magazines from some of her friends. I decided to have a quick look through these and I was amazed at some of the rubbish in there.
For example on one page they were giving advice on what the groom should give the bride as a present on the day. The answer was diamond earrings and necklace etc.
In another issue they were looking at what the Bride should give the groom - that answer was - Don't spend too much money, write his a poem or something.
I think I would feel rather cheated by that arrangement
I was equally perplexed to find that the same magazine was recommending Sri Lanka as the idea honeymoon destination.
Are the writers of these magazines on drugs or something???? Is there any advice that can be trusted in there? Seems to me like these magazines are a big waste of money.

I know there is currently trouble in Sri Lanka, but It is a fantastic place normally! I wanted to go back there for our honeymoon in three weeks time, but Mr did not fancy it (he didn't go with me before).
Instead we chose Cancun. I do believe I am something of a failure at choosing honeymoon destinations
I have to say - nice as a diamond necklace and earings would be, I would NOT be happy if my man bought me them to be honest as we share our money and know we acn't afford them

I always reckon something more personal is better as wedding presents to eachother - save the money for spending money on the honeymoon!
I personally think the only part worth reading in a bridal magazine is the adverts (and thats only cos I put my company in them lol) During research for my company I had to buy a load of magazines and thought that some of the things were a bit OTT but usually with every magazine theres at least one little gem that shouldnt be missed!
Just be lucky you dont have to read them lolLife is what you make it.0 -
There is only 1 magazine that i have browsed through (in the supermarket of course) that i ended up buying and that was wedding ideas magazine, the cheapest out of the lot, and the DO have some fab ideas even if a little expensive you can do them yourself which i thought was good. Most of the mags are just full of adverts though and really epensive ideas, one magazine i saw was advertising a pair of £200 wedding shoes as cheap! Mine were £27 from next! Big difference methinks!0

I have never even looked in one.
I just decided how I wanted my day to go and arranged it that way myself. I have made everything from the corsages to the cake topper. As one of my friends said to me yesterday - 'I can't wait for your wedding, you've really put your heart and soul into organising it.' That means more to me than being able to buy any expensive items that are advertised by wedding mags.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. honestly? We have no idea
We are due to fly three weeks today. All depends on whether Thomson restart thier flights or not!
If they do, then we are, if they don't then we are getting the money back off them (not accepting a subsitute holiday) and rebooking for later in the year!0 -
I dont blame you, ive never been but my BM went last Sept and absolutly loved it, she said it was heaven.
I really hope it all sorts itself out for you, to be honest I think its a load of media hype!!0
