Buying investment land

Has anybody dealt with a land broker called Countrywide Land Holdings Ltd? They want £9,000 up front to buy a 0.06 acre plot near Cambridge. Basically I don't trust them and wondered if anyone else has had dealings with them or any other land broker. Many land brokers have sprung up in the last couple of years and they all claim to sell you prime plots which have good potential for getting planning permission and hence a huge rise in land value.

You'll be throwing your money away. These companies buy up farmland and then divide the plots up and sell them at a small fortune. If there was any chance the areas had development potential they'd have been snaped up by property developers.

It's all a big con. You buy worthless land, they make big money.

If there was any money to be made, they'd keep the land and get the Planning Permission themselves. If you own that plot of land, you'd have to apply for PP on an individual basis at morecost and then get permission from the other landowners to get the services to your plot anyway. It's a total gamble as to when, indeed if ever, you'd get that PP. I bet there'd be a nice 'ransom strip' owned by the company that sold it to you too. What would your plot be worth - a third of the market value of the size of house you've got the PP for?

You could buy a whole acre of greenbelt on the edge of a village for £9,000 and stand just as much chance of getting planning permission. With PP on an acre though, it could be worth in excess of £1,000,000. What's the better investment?

Alternatively you could buy an acre of greenbelt, divide it into small plots and then flog it to other investors at a huge profit....

  • It would seem that Countrywide Land Holdings has unpaid CCJ's totalling over £95 THOUSAND. Would you trust them with your money? I have a strong suspicion that the director of this company is the son of Ken Maynard of Cabot Financial fame. If so, why hasn't daddy with his millions bailed out poor Maynard junior.

Is this a case of, Like Father, Like Son?????
Cabot can now kiss my DONKEY. Statute barred is enough of a result, but the actions of the CABOT FAN CLUB have cost them far more than the paltry sums they were chasing us for.
