Paypal message query

Hi everyone. I have just bought an item on Ebay and paid immediately with Paypal. I just did the normal things, didn't tick any unusual buttons. Now the seller says they have a message "on paypal it says your payment is on hold untill goods have been sent out" Wonder if anyone else has had this?
Another item I paid for, different seller, same day, went through as normal.
Fortunately the seller seems genuine and is sending the item. We both have excellent feedback so hopefully this will go OK.

Yes this has been going on a while. The buyer isn't told but the seller gets an email saying payment on hold, post now. Once they have posted and you have left positive feedback then the payment should be released(takes time after feedback is left), their are other ways around this as well that some people don't know about.

Nice they would post it anyway though, If it was an item of high value I would not want to post something without cleared payment.

Some new sellers are not allowed the money till feedback has been left or x amount of days have passed. The money is there and you have paid fine. The seller is just not allowed it till item has been confirmed as delivered. Its a good way to stop the smaller scammers from doing a runner and not sending the goods.

Can i ask the value of the item concerned this might shed some more light sometimes thats part of the anti-fraud thing to.

Thanks for that. The item was for £9 and the seller had a 100% on 7 items feedback.

Does this not apply to all accounts? I am an account which is years old, will my payment be held if i sell something in the future? Or is it simply for new accounts?

I see why they do it... but it could be an inconvenience to some...

The problem then is you would look like a scammer. You would either need buyer to leave you feedback before you even posted the item (try asking me that!) or you wait 21 days until payment clears by default, by which time buyer thinks you are suspect and has done a paypal chargeback on you and won and you are never trusted again by paypal.

PayPal will not hold payments for eBay items if you meet the following criteria:
    • You have been an eBay member for more than 6-months, and
    • Your total Feedback score is greater than 100, and
    • Fewer than 5% of your transactions result in dissatisfied buyers*
    Or
    • Your average DSR is greater than 4.5, and
    • Your have received more than 20 DSRs in the last 12 months
    • Your buyer dissatisfaction percentage is less than 5%

Its not just a case of being registered for 6 months or longer though, feedback has to be over 100 with not too many dissatisfied buyers or your DSR's need to fit the criteria

I have refunded a penny to the buyer before and had my money released immediately. Never had problems with the buyers, they got their item and everyone was happy.

Not always true, I had been a member of ebay for years with hundreds of feedback and I got my paypals held and I had no negative feedback either.

The 5% rule isn't based only on feedback though. If any of your listings have been reported, or if your stars fall or you have any warnings on your seller dashboard that all affects the rating.
