Ebay item sent brand new, received but buyer saying damaged.Advice needed please.

Advice needed please.

Sent an item to buyer which was brand new...buyer said received it but was not sure it is brand new as on close inspection there is a small scratch on one of the legs (it was a pair of designer sunglasses).

Amount paid for item is less than £2 to put this into perspective. I thought it wouldnt be worth sending back and forth so i offered a half refund and just waiting to hear if they are happy with that. If not what are my options?Who pays postage if he sends it back? and if he does send back do i refund him the item cost or pay the outward and return postage?

How does it work with paypal chargeback? If he does this after i have partially refunded would it take the full amount paid including postage? or over and above the partial refunded monies?

Any advice or suggestions needed, thanks

I would be tempted to tell them to get a life, only phrased more politely. £2!

Thanks for that, i never thought to ask for pictures of the damage, but the buyer said the damage is only visible on close inspection, its not like the leg is hanging off or anything, just a small scratch. So i am not sure if it would show up in a picture and also i have just taken the buyer at their word and refunded him half the price paid as it is only a small amount.

It is good to know though should it happen again with a higher priced item. I have already left positive feedback but i feel this buyer is being a tad pedantic.

I havent heard from him yet regarding the partial refund if he would be happy with that.

Also with a paypal chargeback would they refund to the buyer the postage costs too or just the item cost?If they did a chargeback would he be required to send the item back?

Haha yes indeed, in fact it was less than £2 but i feel some buyers are just never happy regardless how many photographs are shown of the item or the price..or they just know how to utilise the ebay / paypal system very well. I feel if the buyer had got them free they would still not be happy!

    U just gotta laff :rotfl:

i think given the value and the fact they are being so anal
advise them to return the item for a full refund
in a PP chargeback they get their full original payment refunded

The buyer has replied saying he doesn't want half the item value refunded (which was less than £1) and that it is ok.

I would have offered him a full refund but then he would still be as much out of pocket sending it back to me than the item cost and i would be out of pocket the same amount so figured it wouldnt be worth it.

The buyer left neutral feedback saying he is happy with the item but just not what he was expecting....not sure what he was expecting as there were lots of pics and supersize on them too.

oh well first neutral, guess it had to happen sometime....

Similar to one of my experiences.
I bought a door mirror (stick on type) to replace the broken one on my car. It arrived, new and in it's package, but with a bit of chipping on the end when it had been cut badly. I emailed the seller to tell him what it was like. He did offer to change it, but I needed it for the MOT, so I kept it. I left no feedback, as it didn't deserve neutral, but at the end of the day the item was damaged, so I didn't leave positive either. Just one of those things.
