How do you know which tax office to write to?
It's the tax office which deals with your current/latest employer. Ask them or if you have your latest P60 there should be a PAYE ref number of the style - 123/AB45678. The first 3 numbers refer to your tax office and you can put that in here - http://search2.hmrc.gov.uk/kbroker/hmrc/locator/locator.jsp?type=1This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Lots of people at this time of year are applying for the same thing, so it can take a while.
One tax office I spoke to recently was dealing with post from March, so don't hold your breath.
They don't send out an acknowledgement, the chances are that the letter hasn't even been opened yet,
 That's ok just as long as its not been lost in the post thank you.0 -
Yesterday I got a with compliments slip with my P60 (2008-2009) attached.
Today I got 2 lots of Tax Calculation one for 2005-2006 and the other for 2007-2008.
2005-2006
An overpayment of tax has been calculated and will be carried forward to the 2007-2008 tax calculation.
A repayment for 2006-2007 was previously issued and no further repayment is due in relation to this tax year.
2007-2008
An overpayment of tax has been calculated and will be carried forward to the 2008-2009 tax calculation.
Dose this mean they will send the repayment as one or will they let me earn more this year?
Thanks0 -
As they have returned your P60 I think they have done 08-09 and it is just chugging its way through the system. You will get a payable order for the three years together.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

The tax office are likely to try and say you made an underpayment!! They are trying with me even though I worked for a major plc who have everything in order.
I received a letter requesting a P11D for my company car confirming the dates it was terminated. THe letter also said that any repayment for 2008/2009 would be offset by any underpayment for 2007/2008, does this sound right? I called the tax office and asked for the amount of rebate to be confirmed on the phone. They said they would not do this as HMRC do not divulge information like this on the phone and they would write to me, does this sound normal?
Maybe I am just a schizophrenic"!!

perfectly normal - in order to issue a repayment for 08/09 they must double check any other open previous years.
They won't confirm an amount over the phone until the cheque has been issued. And they won't confirm ay underpayment / overpayment amount over the phone but will send it to you in a letter.
They haven't said you have underpaid in 2007/08 but are just covering their bases in case you have underpaidHe's not an accountant - he's a charlatan0 -
I got a cheque yesterday
Thanks for all your help.0
