I was thinking of buying one to actually see what their version is like.. ie that it it a decent copy and not really shi*e before I think of spending at least $340 (if I dont get the FG's and just the 4BM's plus 6m of material) if the workman ship and dress looks awful.

The style of dress is the jasmine style I've posted in The first post (http://www.jasminebridal.com/J_2_1_1_1.aspx?sqno=JPN2008092510952&j_style_no=STYL20080821001&j_line_no=LINE20080821003&j_line_season=B0 the chiffon material.. because its flattering on all the 4 BM's different body types (including one who will have just become a Mummy 6 weeks beforehand!) I need extra material as one of my BM's is 11 and I want her to have little floaty sleeves and one wants to add a halterneck as she feels a little self conscious.

And I don't want to spend more than £80 per dress max- or a max of £100 when including any alterations..

I totally would get why, if I asked, Landy went "nah get lost" if I asked them about the costs, but I thought it was worth a try... I can't see anything like it on chiffon on the site, but then again none of the BM dresses are coming in at 140 euro.. normally they are like 69euro! I do get thought that they will obviously have to make up a pattern for the dress from scratch so this means additional costs...

    Right, so 4 BMs
1 is 11 and needs sleeves
    1 wants halterneck
    2 as original picture
    To cost up using the individual fabric requirements you will need;

    16m colour chiffon 114cm wide = £31.28
12m colour fabric 150cm wide (under chiffon I suggested a shimmer satin which goes lovely under the chiffon.) = £23.46
    12m lining 150cm wide = £16.56

Now, if you buy by the roll you are going to end up with an excess of fabric because there is more on a roll than you require. However, a 23m roll of chiffon costs £31.28 leaving an excess of 7m
A roll of satin costs £23.00 for a 23m roll leaving an excess of 11m (because the fabric is wider and needs less fabric than the chiffon)
A roll of lining is £18.97, slightly more expensive but leaves an excess of 18m!!!
As for patterns, Landy won't make one specifically for you. I have a host in my box and 1 totally suitable. Don't be fobbed off with excuses they will have to cut a new pattern!

So, the total fabric cost is £71.30 for all 4 BM's (there will be a carriage charge which would be about £10 so take this into account.
£81.30 divided by 4 = £20.32 (carriage charge included in this) means you have £60 per each dress to haggle with a dressmaker etc to keep within your budget.

Has this helped? lol. I think if you commission an overseas company to make it, they don't build in time for fittings etc. You give them the size, they make it and then hope for the best. Also, they buy full rolls and as you see, they can make extra dresses from each roll. As in your case, they could get an extra 2 from the chiffon alone. I think £100 for the dresses with fabric included is a pretty good price and you should get exactly what you want for that!
    xx

Forgot to mention that an 11 year old is child so should incur a cheaper making cost than the adult.

Thanks Linda - you're a star - going to PM you!

Interstingly though - I got another email from landy . As I sent a email asking for quotes on the dress twice as the second time I added in some other details..

this is what I got back...
Yes, I can make such a bridesmaid dress for you. I can find similar color for you. I will attach a chiffon color chart to you, please check.
The dress is USD130 including shipping for each.

I can do the flower girl dress for you, it is USD80 for each. If made for teddy bears, no embroidery or beading, 38-40cm, it is USD40 for each.

The fabric is USD10 including shipping per meter if you order it together with the dresses.

As for the jackets, the white one is USD20 and the other is USD40.

Look forward to heairng from you soon.
    Best regards.

So one person in Landy quoted $130 dollars and one quoted 140 euros.. that's quite a difference!

    £124 = 140 euros and $130 = £87.

I'm still going to look into the making it here though too as a back up. I've also emailed light in the box and will email Milly.

Blimey, what a difference. lol at the language!!
Making for Teddy bears. Not much of a difference for such a smaller item (unless the bears are child size!!) And to make something for a bear is going to cost as much as a jacket!! Where are they getting the prices from? What is worrying is that 2 people are quoting 2 currencies that are VERY different.

Re: the money - yeah, I was wondering if perhaps they work on a group commission basis, and basically if the salesperson on that team quotes someone and they accept it the team get all the money after costs... but it did amaze me the difference in price. Its something for others to be aware of if they are asking for landy to speciifcally commission something.

Re: the teddy bears, yeah my Mum can make the teddy bears so there is no prob there! $40 a bear seemed pretty steep!!
