advice for selling clothes on ebay

I was just going to go through my wardrobe and see what items of clothing I had that I don't wear any more and could put on ebay and was wondering if anyone had any advice regarding doing the listings. I have only sold media items and makeup so far.

For example I sometimes see listings where people put all the measurements. Is that necessary? And do I need to do a picture of the front and back of the item or not? I get the feeling that people quite often put in not as described claims in the clothing section so was just wondering what to look out for.

And one more thing, if I have an item that I think could sell anywhere between £20 and £50 what postage should I use in the auction. I would think Special Delivery but that could put the postage up to £10 for a jacket and if it only ended up selling for £20 it would seem a bit off-putting I think.

So just some general advice please?

Oh and is it true that clothing is soon to be compulsory free P&P?

And lastly, are there any free listing days coming up that anyone knows about?

Thank you

When I listed a lot of clothes on ebay I found it useful to use measurements. Saved hassle. Eg, Top Shop size 12s is quite different to Primark. Some things I felt safe just using ticket size, mostly, for the sake of 2 mins, I'd put all measurements on.

    Depends what you are selling.
Jackets, definitely include arm length measured along inside (downwards) seam
Bodices etc, use armpit to armpit, length and waist measurements.
    Jeans - inner leg length

If you do yourself a quick printout with all requirements like size, description, material, measurements, weight, cost for postage, etc in a grid, then fill it in as you go, you'll find it easier when you get to the computer. :)

As for pics, use auctiva or similar and upload front and back at least for free. When selling vintage items I would illustrate any wear I had described. Saves hassle, also anyone seriously wanting to buy will be pleased with the information. Therefore more willing to bid if they like it.

I sold mostly clothing and got 100 possies from that, all stars 4.8 / 4.9 Only one neg, some daft person who was too fat, although I'd used measurements :)

I have recently started selling then buying more clothes and shoes on ebay. Mostly quality brands. While i agree it is a bit of a faff especially if things only sell for 99p. However i would only be giving the stuff to charity and in these credit crunch times i still get my buying fix guilt free, i prefer to call it recycling Gosh i'm almost feeling saintly.

put up decent pictures theres nothing worse buying an item of clothing that looks not too bad or vague in the pic and it looks completely different in person
if it has a pattern please make sure it can be seen on the photo

If your clothes have any features to them that make them a bit different to the norm then say so althought be careful not to keyword spam.

Retro style is always a popular description. If a blouse is lace-up then it could be gothic. A polka-dot A-Line skirt could be described as '50's pin up style' etc although, as stated before, be very careful not to get yourself in trouble for the dreaded keyword spamming.

Hi all: I run a vintage clothing shop on ebay.

[I wont link to it my username might give you a clue hee hee]

It's always good to use a size chart as you would find on a topman or burton website: online buying of clothing without trying them on sometimes throws up these issues as everyones perception of sizing and quality is different.

So just be more than honest and you wont have a problem x
