Dormer bungalow insurance

We recently had a loft conversion and I am in the process of getting home insurance quotes as it is renewal time.

Very few companies list "dormer" bungalow as an option so i am having to read through all the policy documents to see what they do and don't cover, for example, Swinton states that not more than 30% of the roof should be flat.

Has anybody else been through this process and could save me trawling through lots and lots of pages - I would be forever grateful :T

Its a common problem as Insurers do not tend to list Dorma Bungalow, try running it through as a Chalet and then ring the Insurer to confirm they regard it the same as a Dorma Bungalow (Take the persons name and date / time of the call).

There will be questions asking what percentage of the total roof area is flat, make sure you answer this truthfully (Being slightly out should not be too much of a problem). Insurers tend to not mind upto about 20% of the roof area being flat (It does vary though so make sure you read the question it asks about the roof carefully)

Reckon ours is between 40 and 45% flat so I guess I'll just have to do my homework !

Try calling a local broker, let them do the running around for you as they should have no problem find an Insurer for you
