Comparison between media hysteria on Swine Flu and on housing & stock market crash

glad to see you have now decided to not just simply IGNORE certain posters becasue of WHO they are and are now judging each post by its merits. Ignoring people is very childish also - rather akin to taking your ball home if someone else scores...
btw - I have no personal animosity towards ANY MSEr. I will not condemn or villify anyone simply for airing their views. Can you say the same?
Depends on their views. If people express occasional negative views about people of other races then I'd wonder why, when this is a MoneySaving / financial related website where such views are not relevent, though I'd probably not comment.
If that person created threads that were exclusively negative about foreigners or immigrants then I'd wonder about the motives of that person and question why they feel they have to post on a website that is supposed to be exist to help people financially, many of whom will be immigrants who do not fully understand the complexities of the UK tax, benefit and other financial systems.
One would almost think that someone coming on here almost exclusively expressing anti-immigrant sentiments was trying to dissuade immigrants from posting here, in essence trying to make them feel unwelcome on this forum. In that respect then, yes I would vilify them for expressing their views.Mortgage Free in 3 Years (Apr 2007 / Currently / Δ Difference)

The media overhype everything due to the mass stupidity of the general public who get taken in by it. It's at the point where you can't rely on anything they say - so I don't accept the argument of 'well they overhyped swine flu and it turned out to be nothing therefore all the hype about the economy must be false too'. There is no way of making a connection between the two.0

then you demonstrate the same intolerance as you accuse others of.
You would probably be a person who would happily live next door to a Moslem but refuse to live next door to someone you thought was racist.
what double standards...
Also I think you predilection to suppress free speech (the type you disagree with), which has been demonstrated often over the last few weeks, is pitiable.
Also I have lost count on the number of personal attacks you have made on me - often using vile and libbelous insults. I would not stoop to such smear tactics.0 -

You're absolutely right. I wouldn't care what religion, race or colour someone was who lived next door to me, though clearly this isn't the case with you. I wouldn't be comfortable living next door to someone who made openly racist views, and would make it clear to them that I dislike having to hear that sort of opinion - just as a I do with you. I could hardly refuse to live next door to someone with these views because I don't live in LA housing.
Free speech is fine, but you must remember that people should have the freedom to pursue the quiet enjoyment of their lives in this country (and indeed their time on MSE) without the vile comments of racists pouring hate messages against them, trying to make them feel unwelcome both in MSE and in the country at large.
MSE is not the forum for anti-immigration rants, this site is for money savers to pass tips & financial advice onto each other. If you want to discuss race, immigration and nationalism then why not find a different forum where this is more appropriate?Mortgage Free in 3 Years (Apr 2007 / Currently / Δ Difference)

Then neither is it the place to discuss the media's portrayal of potential pandemics... :rolleyes:0 -

I didn't. The discussion wasn't about swine flu, I asked people if they thought the alarmist reporting of an illnes had parallels with the OTT reporting of the financial crisis, which in my opinion (and others on here) helped to excerbate the problems.

I would like it as relevant to a financial website as the cost of unchecked immigration is the economy as a whole.
I think the moral high ground on relevance lies with me here.
btw this exchange is based upon yuor continual attacks on immigration threads, which have been started by a whole raft of people, not just me (that tells us that imigration is a real concern out there). You criticise threads you have no interest in yet cannot accept any criticism of your own.
Double standards there methinks...0 -

One of your threads was locked by misskool who put a comment that 'DD had finally gotten his way and got this thread locked'. I reported her for that as I had made a single solitary post on your 144 post thread - I didn't realise I had such influence that when I post a single remark, the whole thread is locked.
I was vindicated and my 'abuse' report was upheld - her comment, along with your entire thread was deleted. That can hardly be blamed on me.
You also started a thread saying how it made you feel physically sick that the 'reduction bins were always targetted by immigrants who took all the best items'. How is that relevent to anything other than your obvious hatred for anyone who is non-white?Mortgage Free in 3 Years (Apr 2007 / Currently / Δ Difference)

I've come to the conclusion recently that the media are the ones who are amking things happen - they were absolutely determined hat we were going to have a recession - do you remember the months of are we in recession yet on every news programme ? Well they achieved what they set out to and we are well and truly in recession. Unless news is bad the media doesn't want to know
yeah, nothing to do with the economic growth over the last 10 years being funded by people borrowing far more money than they can actually repay. it's all the media's fault! :rolleyes:0 -
DD, don't feed the troll.0
