you should see Charlie Brookers' take on the media, he is 100% spot on everytime
for those who dont know him you can maybe check BBC iPlayer for his TV show "Screenwipe". imho pure genius and i totally agree with him.0 -
I've come to the conclusion recently that the media are the ones who are amking things happen - they were absolutely determined hat we were going to have a recession - do you remember the months of are we in recession yet on every news programme ? Well they achieved what they set out to and we are well and truly in recession. Unless news is bad the media doesn't want to know0

I'm with this Torygraph blogger who reckons this "pandemic" is a manner from heaven distraction for Crash Gordon et al.
Yeah, well I suppose there's always the risk but that's just the kind of crazy, devil-may-care guy I am. So here's my prediction: I'm not going to die of swince flu, you're not going to die of swine flu, none of your friends is going to die of swine flu, none of your Mexican pen pals is going to die of swine flu.In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:0 -

Once again you confuse criticising a post with a personal attack...
Obviously I coiuld learn from you in how to attack fellow MSErs but I would rather dicsuss and debate what they have written.0 -

I think the economy is the same, they talk as though we're going to end up living in caves, with the breakdown of society when in reality we'll just have a financial correction and then life will go on.
What is damaging is when people pay too much attention to the media and get so fearful about the latest illness or get so concerned about the economy that they allow it to impact their lives in a detrimental way.
Sorry, I don't mean that it will be as serious as AIDS, I mean that just because there is a level 5 warning, it doesn't mean that whatever happens will do so immediatly. It will probably take some time. And, frankly, I do think it will not affect the developed world anywhere near as badly as the third world.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

lol, don't for a minute try and pretend that this isn't a personal thing you have with me. Certainly that if anyone else had created this thread, I very much doubt that you'd have made the comment you have.
WHy don't you go back to simply posting your racist anti-immigration threads/posts and leave serious discussions to the grown ups?Mortgage Free in 3 Years (Apr 2007 / Currently / Δ Difference)

Fast forward a week later... The number of deaths attributed to the flu in Mexico has been reduced, the flu is recognised not to be as virulent as first though, especially on human to human contact and the whole alert is being downgraded.
Given the comparable levels of hysteria generated by the media regarding the economic (albeit over a longer time period), do the Panel (you lot) believe that the media has overcooked the economic news and things are nowhere near as bad as they made out and that we'll also look back and smile at their ridiculous alarmist reporting?
I've been offline, so this has probably been covered, but IMO there is a fundamental difference to the way HPC and swine flu have been dealt with. No one ''established'' that I can think of benefits from HPC very well, although it helpd the ordinary house buyer trading up, or buying for the first time and has minimal impact on those who have bought sensibly to live in for the long term. But the board of the drugs company that produces tamiflu is directly influenced by US goverment
and does show benefit from hyping of the flu situation. 0 -
Youtube Broon on the economy - it's under control, it's global, UK best placed to deal with it....;)
Then Youtube Broon on Swine flu - it's under control, it's global, UK best placed to deal with it
Then go crap yerself:eek:0 -

glad to see you have now decided to not just simply IGNORE certain posters becasue of WHO they are and are now judging each post by its merits. Ignoring people is very childish also - rather akin to taking your ball home if someone else scores...
btw - I have no personal animosity towards ANY MSEr. I will not condemn or villify anyone simply for airing their views. Can you say the same?0
