Who can you call to give an opinion on the condition of a boiler without automatically pulling out the brochures for new ones? I am pretty sure that my daughters boiler might be at fault with her excessive use of gas and not the meter as I previously thought. Checking her readings over the past year, they seem to be increasing by 400% per bill starting at 1600kwh and now reading 11683kwh. These readings are between last June to today. I have checked the reading today and worked out the kwh which stands at 1200kwh in just over a week! There is no smell of a leak so can only assume the boiler is at fault. She only has central heating/hot water gas usage in small 2 bedroomed maisonette with 2 adults out all day. Surely this can't be right!?

When was the boiler last serviced? they should be done every year, or no longer than biennially, anyway. If it hasn't I suggest you get this done first by a Corgi man.

Not sure on when it was done last Crossleydd42. I shall ask her tomorrow. I think they had someone round about it roughly a year ago now but as to whether he serviced it .. I don't know.

"1,200 kWh in just over a week "(how much over a week?) is approx £20-24 depending on tariff. Bearing in mind how cold the last week has been, although that is on the high side for a small property, it is perhaps not excessively high.

If I understand you correctly your daughter has used 10,083 kWh(11683-1600) in the 9 months since last June? That is in the region of £200 which is pretty good.

My daughers sept bill usage was 1637, december 5931, march 11683. The March bill was on the 7th and she took the reading last night. I suppose I am comparing her bills to mine. I have a large 3 bedroomed place which has had to be heated higher than usual this year due to having a baby in the house and my bills are way down on hers! For those same 3 bills I am on half of what she is using and she has double glazing which we dont have. I dont understand where its all going!
