Last night the pc was not closed properly ie switched off at mains. This morning when switching it on it gives all the options like safe mode, restart normally etc.

Choosing any of them and the following happens....

We get a blue screen with the error message to say windows was not closed properly. Disable or uninstall any anti-virus etc....

Technical info:

need more info on the BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) as its known, A windows repair may fix this if it a OS related fault.

Insert your windows CD on boot, boot from cd and go into setup, there should be an option to repair the windows installation depending on what version of windows you are running.

Unplug any USB devices that you might have in as they might have been affected by the sudden loss of power.
