Vista losing date order info on video clips

I've had this issue ever since I've had vista.

Basically I have aprox 100 video files from a holiday a couple of years ago. When transferring them to Vista, the information in the date column disappears, the only way I can keep it in some sort of order is 'date modified'. However whenever a file is opened in the windows movie maker it changes the date modified to todays date and disrupts the order.

The only way I can think of getting round this is renaming the files individually 1,2,3,4 etc. I don't want to go down this route if there is an easier way.

So please experts out there let me know if theres a fix or an easy way round this issue.
