Looking for a new desktop pc

I'm looking for a new pc, to replace my current laptop. I've looked at the ones i know of Dell, Dabs and Ebuyer can you suggest any other online stores worth a look in the uk?
It's mostly for office 2007, spotify and itunes, considering a decent sized monitor separetly 22-24 inch as well.

  • PC World, but avoid Curry's with a bargepole even though they are in the same group! That's the only one I can think of right now.

simon - with only wanting to do the things you listed, the next question is what is your budget/want-to-spend figure ?? Almost any new pc will do what you want, so really it's down to how much bang for your buck do you want :)

if you're looking at dell, look at their outlet store, similar for HP (thiers is on ebay)....good deals to be had on either...or how about a local specialist ?? or there's misco, dino, etc., etc.....
    ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

Keep an eye on the Apple refurb store for a refurbished Mac Mini or iMac. Or if you know any students, they could get you a nice discount.

You can get Spotify and Office for the Mac, and iTunes is a lot nicer on Mac OS X than it is on Windows.

    Amazon.co.uk
    Dabbs.com
    Scan.co.uk

Amazon for the Haynes 'Build your own PC' book and all the bits from the other 2 when you realise just how cheap and how easy it is to build one for yourself.

Thanks, i'm actually a p/t student but can't really justify a Mac, even after discount. I've already bought word 2007 for about £40 through "ultimatesteal" for students. Just finishing off this years coursework on it this morning!

Budget would be upto £500 but the lower the better with a good enough spec, preferably at least dual core. That'll need to include a monitor (possibly bought separtely) and a decent graphics grade to run it at a high resolution, i've had enough of squinting at little screens so a 22-24 inch screen is my main driver.

Building 1 is easy to do, id try and get all the bits frm 1 site to cut down on postage or use 2 or 3 sites if the prices are cheaper, also make sure when you buy the m/board that it comes with sata cables (if its a sata hard drive you get ), aria have specials on so you could get some parts cheap but it might be a good idea to see if the same item or better is cheaper on another site

Even after you've factored in a new operating system looking to run at least Vista Premium?

You could certainly get yourself a Mac Mini for less than £500 with a student discount, with enough money left to buy a monitor.

    But, whatever works for you.

It's a good job you can register these student licenses on 2 computers isn't it :p

Argos sell computers, staples have a good deal (£300 i think) on an Acer desktop + monitor last time I looked, that was in store... Yeah check out Staples.

That eBay listing looks so tacky, copy and paste job, says it all.
